정치분과
중국정치 분과에서는 현대 중국정치를 이해하기 위한 개괄적인 과목 (중국연구 입문, 중국학 연구방법, 중국정치 세미나, 비교정치와 중국)과 특정 주제를 다루는 다수의 심화과목을 개설하고 있다. 심화과목은 정책결정과정, 국가-사회 관계, 중앙-지방정부 관계, 도시화, 중국의 대외관계, 동아시아와 중국, 중국과 국제기구 등을 포함한다. 이와 같은 과목을 통해서 중국정치에서 나타나는 현상을 어떻게 설명하며, 중국정치를 어떻게 연구할 것인가를 고민한다.

| This course aims to enhance understanding of research methods in social sciences and applying them to Chinese studies. This course will be composed of four parts. First, we will cover basic understanding in research methods such as causal inference, theory, and concepts. Second, we will examine strengths and weaknesses of various methods in making causal inference. Third, we will examine various issues in applying research methods to Chinese studies. 경제분과
중국경제의 연구 및 분석을 위해서는 경제이론, 중국역사, 정치, 사회/문화/언어에 대한 이해와 중국경제의 구조적 특징에 대한 심도있는 학습이 필요하다. 한국외대 국제지역대학원 중국학과에서는 중국경제 전문가 육성을 위해 반드시 필요한 다양한 교과과정을 개설(국내에서 가장 세분화된 전공 과목 개설)함으로써 전문 학자를 육성할 수 있는 틀을 갖추고 있으며, 원어강의와 응용과목을 통해 중국경제 관련 실무 능력을 동시에 배양하고 있다.
석사과정 졸업생들은 유학과 금융기관, 기업 및 공공기관, 출연 연구소 및 기업 연구직 취업을 통해 전문가로서의 발전을 도모하고 있으며, 박사학위를 취득한 다수의 중국전문가는 국내 대학과 연구기관에서 중국연구 분야에 종사하면서 출중한 학술적 업적을 축적하고 있다. 또 한국외대의 중국연구소 및 중국학부와 유기적인 교육 및 연구 네트워크를 구성하여 실무 및 연구 경험을 축적할 수 있다. (예: 2012-2015 중국연구소 추진 다년간 한국연구재단 지원 연구프로젝트 "중국 지역 시장구조 특성 DB 및 Index 개발")

사회문화
중국사회는 황하문명에서 태동하여 한족(漢族)을 비롯한 다양한 족군(ethinic)으로 구성되었으며 차서격국(次序格局)이라는 전통적인 사회 관습을 지닌 형태로 발전되어 왔다.
근대시기 이후 중국사회는 중국혁명과 사회주의시기를 거치면서 다양한 계층과 구조로 분화되었고, 2000년대 이후 중국은 기존 사회주의의 변용, 시장경제의 성숙, 대중문화의 약진, 도시화의 추세, 전통문화의 부활, 글로벌 화인네트워크의 확장 등의 전방위적인 변화를 경험하고 있다.
중국학과 사회문화분과는 중국의 현대사회구조, 족군과 민족구성, 역사와 문명, 변강과 갈등요소, 환경과 관습, 현대문화의 특징, 계층과 분화현상, 대중문화와 문화콘텐츠, 지역 조사방법, 법률제도 연구 등 다양한 분야를 연구하고 논의한다. 21세기 중국은 소프트파워를 강조하는 강대국의 위상을 꿈꾸고 있다. 21세기 문화 강국을 정점으로 대국 반열에 올라서고자 하는 중국의 과거와 현재 그리고 미래를 배우는 중요한 시작을 한국외대 국제지역대학원 중국학과에서 함께하길 바란다.
