The object of the Department of Latin American Studies of Graduate School of International and Area Studies is to cultivate Latin American area experts in the field of politics, economics and sociology, and provides various inter-disciplinary seminars and special lectures to the students. The politics major studies the political development and international relations, the economics major studies the macro economics of the region and interaction with the international economy and regional integration, and the sociology major studies history, culture, social structure and change.

The Department of Latin American Studies opens seminar classes each semester with support of KIEP (Korea Institute for International Economic Policy) and invites high-ranking officials and experts to give special lectures. It also supports the students to study and experience corresponding areas and regions through “3+1 Student Dispatch Program” and lots of internship opportunities.
